Tuition-free during the standard study period plus 2 tolerance semesters.
After this period: €363.36 per semester.
Mandatory Austrian Student Union (ÖH) fee: €25.20 per semester (as of Winter Term 2025/26).
Non-EU/EEA Students (with Student Residence Permit):
€726.72 per semester.
Plus the ÖH fee €25.20.
Refunds or waivers during the COVID‑19 special regulations—e.g., for military or civil service delays—are possible (JKU - Johannes Kepler Universität Linz).
If you are a degree-seeking student at the JKU, you are not subject to paying tuition fees as long as you complete your degree program within the designated time period to complete a degree, plus two tolerance semesters (for Diploma degree programs per study section) and one of the following points applies:
Austrian citizens,
EU citizens,
EEA citizens (Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein),
Nationals of the Swiss Confederation,
Citizens of the United Kingdom who have obtained and used a residence permit in Austria before the end of the transitional period (December 31, 2020) and are still currently exercising their right to reside in Austria.
Convention refugees (also from another EU country),
Subsidary beneficiaries of protection,
Third-country nationals who have been granted one of the following residence permits: "Daueraufenthalt - EG" or "Daueraufenthalt - EU" issued by the responsible Austrian authority, "Daueraufenthalt - EG" or "Daueraufenthalt - EU" issued by the responsible authority of a another member country and an additional residence permit for Austria issued by the responsible Austrian authority,
Turkish nationals on the basis of the EEC-Turkey Association Agreement, providing he/she duly lives with parents who are Turkish nationals and the parents are or were legally employed in Austria
Student to whom the group regulation applies
Students who have another Austrian residence permit than "Aufenthaltsbewilligung Studierende"
Tuition and ÖH fees are due before the start of the semester—late payments may result in de‑enrollment.
Fee waivers or reimbursements may apply in special or retroactive cases; timely application is essential.
EU/EEA Students:

In rare cases, a 50% reduction may be granted to third‑country nationals with close ties to Austria (e.g., recognized refugees, diplomats, Austrian Red‑White‑Red card holders).
Exchange students are exempt from tuition—only the ÖH fee applies.
Disability or Study Interruption: Written application with documentation (e.g., disability certificate, medical or parental leave proof) may secure exemptions; applies for the entire duration of the interruption or disability.
Winter Semester: payment deadline is October 31.
Summer Semester: payment deadline is March 31.
Late or missing payments result in de‑registration; if exams are due in the final month, payment must be made at least 5 business days prior.
