One of the very first steps after arriving in Austria is to register your address with the local authorities. This process, called Meldezettel Anmeldung, is a legal requirement within 3 days of moving in and serves as the foundation for almost everything else in your student life. Without it, you cannot open a bank account, activate health insurance, complete university enrollment, or extend your visa.

Magistrat in the city hall (Neues Rathaus)

Register with a foreign ID if possible—it costs €21 instead of €42 with a passport.

After you are registered by the municipality, so know your address is known by different parties and governmental entities, so your POST BOX is now becoming your official channel to contact you by any official agency, and you must check it frequently (once a day, ideally)
As a student in Linz, you can apply for the Aktivpass (Active Pass) issued by the City of Linz, which gives you access to a wide range of discounts and benefits. With the Aktivpass, you can enjoy reduced prices for cultural events, sports facilities, public swimming pools, museums, concerts, and the monthly public transport ticket within the city.
To be eligible, you must be officially registered as living in Linz and meet certain income requirements, most full-time students qualify. The pass is valid for one year and can be renewed as long as you still meet the conditions.
Apply in person at the Linz City Hall (Neues Rathaus) or the designated Aktivpass office.
Bring your student ID, proof of residence (Meldezettel), a valid photo ID (passport or ID card), and proof of income (or confirmation of student status).
You’ll receive the card immediately upon approval.
